The public is quite feverish with excitement in Baltimore over the developments under the new police regime.

A correspondence appeared in the Louisville newspaper between Gen. Buckner and the Quartermaster of the State Guards. Collector Colton and W.P. Weller, the special agent of the government, were accused of refusing to allow supplies to the troops at Columbus to pass by river or railroad.

Account of a skirmish between Union pickets and Confederate cavalry near Romney. The pickets were able to learn that there were four regiments of Confederates near Romney.

There are no plans for any organized celebrations of the Fourth of July due to the war.

The wheat harvest in the county promises to be very good.

The rumor that two of the picket guards on the Franklin Railroad have been shot is false. The Spirit criticizes those who spread such unfounded and hysterical war news.

Announces that the County Commissioners appropriated money to support the families of the local volunteers for four weeks.

The sick soldiers who had been quartered at Franklin Hall have been removed. Many local families have taken in two or three convalescing soldiers.

Capt. Housum of Company A, Second Regiment, Penna. visited his home and reported that the Franklin men are doing well.

Mary Starlipper, an employee of Fisher's Hotel, gave birth to a child and concealed it in a bucket. She claimed it was still-born, but the medical examiner found that the child was born alive. She will be arrested and taken to prison.

The Spirit believes that Congress will not favor any peace measures when it convenes next week.

Capt. McMullen's Rangers left a company flag in the hands of Squire Hamman when they left Franklin County. They instructed him to display it whenever good news was heard from the Rangers. The flag will thus be displayed from the veranda of the Franklin House now that Chambersburg has received news that the Rangers have successfully advanced into Virginia.

McDonald, a member of Company K, 13th Regiment PA Volunteers, died on June 29, age 20 years.

Died on June 28, aged 8 years.

Died on June 29, aged 21 years. He was a member of the 3rd Regiment, Company 1, PA Volunteers.

James Orr Kennedy died on June 26. He was Dr. Kennedy's infant son.
