This article calls for peace, notes that the Lincoln administration is incompetent, and warns that those who are profiting from the war will soon find their fortunes reversed.

Discusses Imboden's leadership and troop movement in western Virginia, the capture of Cumberland, Maryland, and the fear on the part of the people there when they heard that "Imboden, the Guerilla," was coming.

The Old School pastor at Harrisonburg announces that his congregation has suffered perhaps more than any other in the presbytery. In spite of the hardship, his salary has been increased by gifts at various times and most recently almost doubled by a single gift.

Refers to an article in the New York Freeman that discusses "various outrages" by New England soldiers to Roman Catholic priests in the Valley and to Roman Catholic churches in Louisiana. The sufferers have appealed to the archbishops and to any high ranking Catholics in the Lincoln administration to keep the war from becoming one against Catholics.

A list reveals the source of contributions totaling $2084.35 that J. Wayt has collected on behalf of the refugees from the northwest. Contributing from Augusta County were H. W. Sheffey, $1020; Captain James F. Jones, $30; A. Urton, $10; various citizens, turned in by J. B Evans, $205; D. J. Castleman, $25; and Joseph A. Waddell, $10.

T. W. Wilkinson, charged with stealing a horse from Samuel Patterson of Augusta County and with beating him severely, escaped from the county jail, assumed several alias, was caught by members of Colonel W. L. Jackson's command, and was returned here Saturday. J. T. Largent, convicted of stealing a horse from Samuel Koiner of Augusta, escaped from county jail, was arrested on Tuesday at the Virginia Hotel, and was returned to jail.

In light of advances the Confederate forces are making, Generals Lee and Ewell have issued orders on the destruction of private property and on improper conduct while on enemy territory. While the editor understands how many would feel the need for retaliation, he hopes everyone will follow the generals' orders.

The recent rains were much needed, will help the corn crop, and will "take the starvation idea out of Old Abe's cranium."

Yankee prisoners taken at Upperville, Winchester, and beyond arrived in Staunton yesterday, with 2300 more on their way.

Eleanor S. Thompson, daughter of Judge Lucas P. Thompson, married R. G. Harper Carroll, of Howard County, Maryland, at her father's house in Staunton on Thursday, June 18. The Right Reverend Bishop McGill officiated.

Robert W. Burke, of Augusta County, married Fanny A. Gilman, daughter of Granville Gilman, Esq., of Fredericksburg, on June 25 at St. Paul's Church, in Richmond, with Reverend Doctor Minnegerode officiating.

Daniel Milton Keiser, son of Jacob Keiser, Esq., of Roanoke and formerly of Augusta County, was killed in a cavalry fight near Berryville, Clarke County, Virginia.

The Augusta Medical Society was organized at a meeting of Augusta County physicians on June 26. The group is intended to enhance professional relationships and to standardize procedures for costs and payment during the war. The group elected V. T. Churchman as president unanimously, T. W. Shelton as vice president, W. L. Walters as treasurer, and Samuel Kennerly, Jr., as secretary. Signing a resolution regarding the practice of medicine during the war were these four, plus R. A. McChesney, J. M. Watson, James E. Dunlap, John E. Lockbridge, John C. Hyde, James A. J. Waddell, H. M. Patterson, James T. Clark, B. F. Hopkins, Joseph Wilson, Sr., Isaac Hall, C. A. McCutchen, J. Alex Waddell, B. B. Donaghe, John McChesney, J. M. Tate, A. J. Hamilton, John B. Bell, R. S. Hamilton, D. W. Hanger, John Myers, George T. Robson, Samuel McDaniel, S. R. Hendren, D. Bashaw, T. Rennolds, John M. Hanger.

Major William M. Wilson, commanding the 32nd Regiment of Virginia Militia stationed at Mt. Sidney, announced the orders of the Adjutant General of Virginia that a regimental muster will be held in New Hope, Saturday, July 4. All persons between 18 and 45 who are not already in service in the Confederacy, those who have had substitutes, and those previously exempted for whatever reasons are required to gather, or face repercussions of the law.

Reverend R. W. Barnwell of South Carolina died in the last week at Staunton of typhoid.

Thomas Garber of Augusta County was wounded in fighting in Upperville and has since died.
