"Then comes the great strength of this opposition,---the Black Republicans, the Abolitionists, and all the isms of the north, the Fanny Wright men, the anti-renters, the Mormons....They should have learned wisdom from the past, and remembered how the yeomanry of the South, and especially of Virginia, tracked the wily Sam through all his windings, and denounced him as a humbug and imposter, in spite of his disguises."
