Criticizes the defeat of the military claim bill by the state legislature. The editors assert that the bill only recognized the citizens' sacrifices to allow future adjudication during peace time. The legislature defeated the bill on the suspicion that fraudulent claims would rob the state treasury. The editors deem the action of the legislature inconsistent with patriotism and justice.

Reports the passage of a bill in the state legislature proposed by McClure. The bill allows the governor to uniform companies in the border counties for local defense.

Describes the damage caused by a flood in the Susquehanna to the Cumberland Valley and Pennsylvania Central railroads.

Recounts the defeat of the military claim bill. An opponent of the bill insinuated that McClure proposed the bill because he lost over $50,000 in the rebel border attacks.

Describes a trip to the army of the Potomac, desertions from the rebel army, gossip on the streets of peace, and the slow recovery of Lincoln from his illness.

Lists of drafted men in Guilford, St. Thomas, Petters, and Warren townships in Franklin County. Green, Southampton, Mercersburg, and Greencastle filled their quotas there and will not be subject to a draft.

Describes a Copperhead gang from Bedford and Fulton counties that congregates in Whip's Gap. The gang commits "outrages" upon Union men like destroying barns, crops, and livestock.

Notes the exchange of Thomas Myers, Co. K, 107th Pa.; Thomas Cochran, 77th Pa.; Monroe Bernitz, 1st Pa. Rifles; William Pearse, --th Pa.; and George S. Heck and A. C. McGrath, both citizens. The rebels held the six men as prisoners.

Describes the battle in Kinston, North Carolina, in which the rebels attempted to take the Union earthworks .

Discusses news learned from an exchanged Union prisoner formerly held at Castle Thunder, Richmond. The soldier describes Richmond's response to Sheridan's attack.

Relates Sheridan's report on his movements at Richmond.

Prints Lincoln's speech during a ceremony for the presentation of a captured flag from Fort Anderson given by the 140th Indiana Volunteers to their Gov. Morton.

Describes the progress of Sherman as his army marches on Goldsboro.

Reports Gen. Lee's belief in the impossibility of Confederate victory with his cut supply lines cut and depleted armies.

Describes a general drop in the prices of stocks.

On March 15, at the home of the bride's mother, by the Rev. McCool, David Seibert, of Chambersburg, married Ellie, daughter of the late John Martin, of Pottsville.

On March 20, by Rev. Smith, Joshua McCumsey, of Lancaster city, married Jennie McFarren, near Mt. Alto, Franklin County.

On March 12, near Waynesboro, Mary, daughter of Jacob Shank, died at 14 years, 2 months, and 3 days.

On March 9, in Waynesboro, Charles, son of John and Cecelia Stoner, died at 4 months and 10 days.

On March 14, near Spring Run, Hannah, daughter of Elias and Eliza Shearer, died at 26 years, 2 months, and 22 days.

The two sons of Jonathan Minick were killed during military service. Peter, a private in Co. I, 149th Regiment, was killed at Petersburg .
