Valley of the Shadow

Summary

McClure encourages Slifer to come to Mifflintown as a part of his campaign, and his letter also refers to some trouble in the party ranks.

Mifflintown

Dear Col-

I wrote you a few days ago reminding you of your promise to visit us this campaign, and in reply to yours I would advise that you do so. I do not entertain any idea of your defeat, but our folks would like to see you they are to vote for. Bring Snyder along if possible - he can do some good here, as the paper in this place has been assailing him almost villianously for some time.

I regret the state of affairs in your ranks, and feel surprised that Mr [unclear: Roger], who once made such a [unclear: narrow] escape, should throw himself into the hands of the [unclear: disaga--ies]

I will confidently elect you at our meeting and will say so in the Sentinel.

Yours truly

AK McClure
